Network Designer — Defence ICT (NTDS Level 5)
The Directorate of Modernisation, Assurance and Technical Integration (MATI) requires two Network Designers to develop detailed network designs complying with Defence architecture principles, security requirements and technical assurance frameworks.
Overview
These roles involve reviewing and interpreting system requirements, operational needs and security constraints to produce high-level and detailed network designs. Security integration is critical — all design artefacts must incorporate Defence security policies, accreditation requirements and cryptographic standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop high-level and detailed network designs including topology diagrams, configuration specifications and integration plans
- Ensure alignment with Defence Enterprise Architecture and endorsed design standards
- Incorporate Defence security policies, accreditation requirements and cryptographic standards
- Conduct design reviews and validate designs against performance and resilience criteria
- Ensure interoperability with existing systems
- Prepare network diagrams, configuration guides and interface control documents
- Provide technical guidance during installation, integration and testing phases
- Collaborate with architects, cybersecurity specialists and project managers
Essential Criteria
- Qualifications, certifications or demonstrated experience designing complex network solutions (e.g. Bachelor degree in IT, CCNP, JNCIP)
- Current NV1 security clearance (or above)
Desirable Criteria
- Familiarity with Australian Government ISM, ASD Essential Eight and Defence security frameworks
- ITIL Foundation
Work Arrangements
On-site at HMAS Harman, Canberra ACT 2600. Government furnished facilities including a Defence PC on the DPN/DSN network will be provided. Note: 2 positions available.
